History of the Laboratory of Bioregulation Chemistry

  • 1974
    • Inaugurated as Laboratory of Agricultural Resource Chemistry, Department of Agricultural Chemistry.
      • Professor AKATSUKA Tadami, Associate Professor HIRAMATSU Akira, and Assistant Professor KODAMA Osamu
  • 1983
    • Discovery of oryzalexins as rice phytoalexins.
  • 1984
    • Professor Akatsuka and Assistant Professor Kodama received the Pesticide Science Society of Japan Award for "Pharmacological studies on antifungal substances against the rice blast fungus."
  • 1987
    • With the reorganization of the department, the Laboratory of Natural Products Chemistry and Pesticide Science (Professor Akatsuka and Assistant Professor Kodama) and the Laboratory of Applied Enzyme Engineering (Professor Hiramatsu), Department of Bioresource Sciences were established.
  • 1988
    • Associate Professor KODAMA Osamu was promoted.
  • 1990
    • Assistant Professor KUWAHARA Shigefumi joined the Laboratory of Applied Enzyme Engineering.
  • 1994
    • Professor AKATSUKA Tadami and Professor HIRAMATSU Akira retired.
    • Professor KODAMA and Associate Professor KUWAHARA Shigefumi (transferred from the Laboratory of Applied Enzyme Engineering to the Laboratory of Natural Products Chemistry and Pesticide Science) were promoted.
  • 1996
    • Associate Professor Kuwahara received the JSBBA Award for Young Scientists from the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry for his "Synthetic chemical studies on functional substances related to biological interactions."
    • With the reorganization of the department, the Laboratory of Natural Products Chemistry and Pesticide Science became the Laboratory of Bioregulation Chemistry, Department of Bioresource Sciences.
  • 1998
    • Assistant Professor HASEGAWA Morifumi joined.
  • 2000
    • Associate Professor KUWAHARA Shigefumi moved to Tohoku University.
  • 2001
    • Associate Professor TOSHIMA Hiroaki joined.
  • 2002
    • The 27th Annual Meeting of the Pesticide Science Society of Japan was held at the College of Agriculture, Ibaraki University (Chairperson: Professor KODAMA Osamu).
  • 2005
    • Lecturer HASEGAWA Morifumi was promoted.
  • 2007
    • Professor KODAMA Osamu retired.
  • 2008
    • Professor TOSHIMA Hiroaki and Associate Professor HASEGAWA Morifumi were promoted.
  • 2017
    • With the reorganization of the department, the Laboratory of Bioregulation Chemistry belonged to the Department of Food and Life Science.
